As a momma, I don’t always get to sleep 8 hours. I used to joke around and say, “I’ll sleep when I die.” But after reading Dr. Matthew Walker’s book “Why We Sleep,” I’ve stopped saying that and making efforts to get more rest. By the way, I highly recommend the book!••One shocking story, a man named Michael Corke suffered from fatal familial insomnia, which is a genetic condition in which a rogue protein destroys parts of the brain, which includes the thalamus that is a sensory gate to shut wakefulness and for sleep to begin. Essentially, there was no sensory for him to sleep. Despite everything he did, Corke lived only 6 months because he literally could not sleep! And during his 6 month period, his life capacity lessened. Systems within his body began to shut down. He hallucinated, lost ability to generate language and at 42 years old, his life resembled and elderly at the end-stage of dementia. ••What can we learn from this? Getting sufficient sleep is vital for life! It increases your capacity to adapt to the stressors of life! That means you focus better, you have better moods, you can respond to stress better, you move better, you have better memory! ••BrainTap has some really great sessions to get you started for the day! Just download the app and plug in your earphones! Meet my new friend Talina Massey. Talina works for BrainTap head office and previously was a marine who lived in Okinawa 2008 to 2011. She said she loved living there and that the culture and people were so amazing. Being a martial artist Okinawa has tremendous history; Okinawan martial arts refers to the martial arts, such as karate, tegumi and Okinawan kobudō, which originated among the indigenous people of Okinawa Island. Due to its central location, Okinawa was influenced by various cultures with a long history of trade and cultural exchange, including Japan, China and Southeast Asia, that greatly influenced the development of martial arts on Okinawa. It’s a place I would love to visit one day for the sheer martial history alone. #braintapsummit #braintapsummit2019 #braintapping #terryhodgkinson #braintap #martialarts

“There are two greatest days in a person’s life: the day we are born and the day we discover our why.” ••Before Rivers was born, my underlying thought was “I’m not going to let my kid get in the way of my career.” The reality of being a mom honestly wasn’t even real for me even days after he was born. I was just simply trying to go through the motion of responding to his cries and fitting into this idealistic mold of what a perfect mom should be— and I was absolutely not to say the least. I was wearing a diaper for crying out loud and it hurt to pee! ••He was new, and I was new. The day I discovered my ‘Why’ had no words. Rivers and I were sitting in the dark, a dim light coming from my bathroom was just enough to illuminate his face. I had just finished nursing him. He was so small in my arms. His dark eyes was just looking at me non judgmentally, completely trusting, completely loving. And I just cried and cried with the flood of love that was filling my heart. ••And even then, it wasn’t even truly conceivable or one that I would allow myself to truly embrace only until these last few months. Up till then, I always thought my ‘Why’ should be something so big, unselfish and global. But you know what? Rivers is exactly that. ••The lives I come across everyday and get to work with as a chiropractor will shift the world that he grows up in. And now I get to show him what that world is like. ••This morning, I am grateful to have gained some new skills and tools at BrainTap Summit to voice this.••#contemplation #mywhy #ilovebeingamom #workingmom #inspired #braintapsummit #braintap #joyfulmarketing
