Access to the Outdoors - Photo & Art Contest

Arc'teryx Seattle, Glazer's Camera, and Adventure Art Academy has partnered together to bring you an opportunity to explore the outdoors through the eyes of an artist. In support of the Washington Trail Association & Real Rent Duwamish, help us acknowledge the original stewards of the land and share your favorite hikes & trails across WA state to inspire others in joining the adventure!

HOW TO ENTER:

  • Visit the WTA's website and choose a hike to explore. Research the location's Tribal Territories and Leave No Trace principles before you go.
  • Take a landscape photograph or paint the landscape with your favorite medium in a way that represents your hike.
  • Submit your painting or photograph below with location details for a chance to win!
  • You can submit 1 new entry per week (5 entries total)

SUBMISSION DETAILS:

Artwork Specifications -

  • Subject - Painting or photograph can include bodies of water, meadows, wildflowers, forests, trees, old growth, ridges/passes, mountains, summits, glacier, and all other geological or climatological features. No close-ups of people, pets, nor wildlife will be accepted! Keep the subject focused on the landscape. 
  • Post-processing - Minor adjustments, including the removal of sensor dust or scratches on scans of negatives, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast, toning, slight color adjustment and conversion to grayscale are acceptable for all categories, All other photo manipulations or conceptual art will be disqualified.
  • Quality - High-quality scans of non-digital photographs & paintings are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible.
  • Rights & Use -  To be eligible, the photograph or painting must have been created by the entrant since July 1st, 2021. The contestant certifies that they are the sole creator and copyright owner of the submitted artwork. The creator retains all rights to work that is submitted--we will not use nor replicate your work for marketing reasons other than to announce the winners on social media and email. 


Requirements - 

  • Photograph or painting must be created during contest period and no earlier than July 1st 2021.
  • Entry must include 1] a link to the trail from the WTA's website, & 2] the tribal territories the trail or location resides on.
  • Publicly acknowledging the original stewards of the land you are recreating on can be a meaningful way to honor indigenous peoples and resist erasure of their histories. You can learn more here: https://native-land.ca/
  • By joining this contest, you will be automatically entered into the newsletter for the following contest hosts: Arc'teryx Seattle, Glazer's Camera, Adventure Art Academy, & WTA. If you do not wish to receive our updates, please unsubscribe.
  • Please view the official rules below before submitting your entry.


At the end of this contest, a panel of 4 judges will review publicly review and critique the submissions and choose 6 winners to win the prizes listed above. This event will be livestreamed via Glazer's Camera on August 17th 2021 at 5:00PM--please rsvp so you don't miss out!

Winners will have the chance to display their artwork at our gallery show at The Collective, next door to Glazer's Camera in August! Please join us to celebrate our winners and fellow community creatives showcasing work inspired by our local outdoors!
