This volunteer is always looking for ways to help others and has been a source of inspiration for many. He suffered severe tragedy in his life but did not let it change him nor did it prevent him from donating platelets to cancer patients several times a month for the last eight years. She works tirelessly to find creative ways to educate her students about the environment, and take action in the community. Danyel is also an active member in the community that hosts monthly beach clean-ups. She spends a great deal of time volunteering to help solve our rural island issues, and support community efforts as well as initiatives. She is very much deserving of the title amazing volunteer.

Jonathan has been a dedicated volunteer on Lāna'i. He participates in monthly beach clean-ups for Plastic Pickers in Paradise. Not only does he clean the beach, but he prepares all the supplies like washing gloves, sorting tools, loading the truck, and even buying snacks for the keiki that attend. Jonathan has also been a big supporter for the Kokua Exchange Timebank on Lāna'i. He has exchanged several hours of bicycle mechanic work for time credits. Lastly, Jonathan is a huge supporter of my efforts propagating and growing native plants for my students at school and preparing for outplanting. He loves to give back to our community and I believe he deserves to be recognized for his efforts.

Lauren has been part of Surfrider Maui Committee to assist in organizing beach clean ups. Removed fishing nets with Hawaiian Island Trust. Planted native plants with Eco Skyline. Accompanied the kids with Hawaiian Canoe Club on their voyage/service trips to Kahoolawe to restore trails. Did Kaukau for keiki which essentially helped provide produce for families. She's looking forward to more upcoming ways in helping her community on Maui!

Whether he’s cooking meals for children in need every week through Salvation Army, coaching soccer (15 yrs.), mentoring children, hand making walking sticks for cancer patients, or just giving someone his time to listen to their problems, he does it all unselfishly and with love. His passion to help others has been endless. I’m very proud to be married to a person who lives his life with compassion for others and faith in God.

Beyond assisting us with the many calls we get on a daily basis, Josie is always up for a challenge! There is so much micro trash on some of the beaches on Kauai and other islands I try to pick up as much as I can when I see it.

Most of her time volunteering goes to helping the agency department with the Senior Farmers Market Program and Senior Food Box (CSFP) Program. In 2022 alone, Gail volunteered 102 hours of her time, which doesn't include the time she takes out of her days to help at our partner networks' distributions such as Lighthouse Outreach and HHHRP.

tw_user 221 Weeks 9 VotesKaili Swan is a 29 yr old male with Down's syndrome who is a member of the Hawaii Self-Advocacy Advisory Council and is currently a volunteer with the Hawaii State Council on Developmental Disabilities office. He has learned how to write and speak testimony during the Hawaii State Day at the Capitol event for people with disabilities this past March 2022. Since then he has provided in-person testimony on at least four of the numerous bills that the State Council on Developmental Disabilities support this 2022 legislative session. He also provides support to the Ewa Neighborhood board, where he lives, on issues concerning disabilities. The HSCDD Executive Administrator, Ms. Daintry Bartoldus is extremely proud of Kaili's accomplishments in representing the Council on these legislative measures. Kaili also is an emergency preparedness trainer in the "Feeling Safe, Being Safe" emergency preparedness program. He teaches people with disabilities how to prepare for natural disasters by training them to document their doctors numbers, medications, and how to prepare emergency kits, meeting their neighbors to help each other during disasters, and practicing an evacuation plan to local shelters.. He has made personal visits to the Honolulu City and County emergency communication center and to the HI civil defense center in Diamond Head Crater to learn about emergency preparedness.

In 2020 to 2021, most were zoom meetings during Covid 19 lockdown! 6) Christina solely interviewed almost 50 sustainable leaders of Hawai’i to share what they are doing in energy, eco technology, and sustainable living. 7) Christina is an affiliate of a national regenerative realtors group that focuses on green real estate, permaculture, agriculture, sustainable communities and affordable housing for everyone. 8) She has been on the panel of WellnessRE magazine affiliate and moderators, panelists, guest speakers and more for our real estate community and sustainable communities. She is very focused on helping to promote small businesses especially in the sustainable sectors and procure business and make connections 9) She Mentor kids at church in Kids Rock .

AAS is the only farmed animal sanctuary on Oahu, with over 30 animals calling the sanctuary home. Korie volunteers her time as the Director of Development- planning fundraisers, building partnerships, overseeing sponsorships, creating volunteer & donor appreciation gifts, building & improving the animal resident’s habitats and showering the animals with love and care, all while going to nursing school and working. She’s has put in countless hours- pouring blood, sweat and tears into all of her projects at the sanctuary to give the animals at the sanctuary the absolute best life. Aloha Animal Sanctuary is so thankful to have Korie as a volunteer.

In 2020 she started working on a project on the North Shore of Oahu to plant 10,000 trees, but it morphed into a state-wide project to plant trees. She worked tirelessly to coordinate the teams on Kauai, Maui and the Big Island, besides the hundreds of volunteers on Oahu to plant the trees between Aug 2020 and June 2021. We continues to organize tree planting projects and recently worked with DLNR to weed and plant native plants on a Moanalua Trail. Again, she recruited volunteers, organized the event and executed the project. She regularly participates in beach clean-ups, tree planting, caring for a garden in Kakaako and coordinates periodic environment projects. She is energic, caring, giving and a leader.. She volunteers time to guide her Rotary Club, as Past President. She is making a difference in our communities and helps the environment with meaningful projects.

She works with her group of helpers throughout the year organizing and inventorying medical supplies. Updates procedures and procures medical equipment. She enlists a top Notch team of doctors, nurses, and pA’s, Ma,s and helpers for race weekend and provides on the spot medical services for participants, volunteers and spectators off the sunset Fun Run, Lava Kids a d the triathalon. In addition she funds most of the supplies for the Med tent out of her own , As a service to the community. This was her last race to serve as director but she will still be with on race day as a part of the team. She gives so much of her time, money and herself so our Kona runners community can have a fun and SAFE event, I think she surely deserves this recognition!

United Airlines and Kanu Hawaii have partnered for Volunteer Week Hawaii 2022 to recognize outstanding volunteers in Hawaii.
To reward a few of them, United Airlines has generously donated two pairs of roundtrip trip travel certificates to any destination served by United between Hawaii and the US48, Alaska, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America and our two winners will each receive a pair.
In celebration of Volunteer Week Hawaii 2022, you can nominate an amazing volunteer of your choice for this giveaway then share the voting link you'll receive so others can vote for them. The top two vote getters will win!
The voting began at 6am on Sunday, April 24th, the official wrap-up of Volunteer Week Hawaii 2022, and concluded at midnight on April 30, 2022. The winners will be announced at the United Airlines Hawaii event on May 2, 2022.

Volunteer Recognition Award featuring flights from United Airlines
OFFICIAL RULES
1. Sponsor: Volunteer Recognition Award features flights from United Airlines (the "Contest") but is solely facilitated by Kanu Hawaii, 1050 Queen St, Suite 100, Honolulu, HI (the “Sponsor”). The Sponsor is responsible for all aspects of the Contest. Participation in the Contest constitutes the participant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules, and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.
2. Eligibility: Contest (the "Contest") is only open to participants who are legal residents of United States, and who are 13+ at the time of entry (the “Entrant”). Employees of Kanu Hawaii (the "Sponsor"), their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, suppliers and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to participate in the Contest. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law, rule, or regulation.
3. Contest Period: Entries will be accepted online starting on March 16, 2022 at 12:00 AM and ending Apr 23, 2022 at 11:59 PM (the “Entry Period”). All online entries must be received by Apr 23, 2022 11:59 PM . All times are (GMT-10:00) Hawaii. Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible. Sponsor’s computer is the official timekeeping device for the Contest.
4. How to Enter: The Contest must be entered by submitting an entry using the online form provided on this site. The entry must fulfill all Contest requirements, as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. Entries that are not complete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of Kanu Hawaii. You may enter only once and you must fill in the information requested. You may not enter more times than indicated by using multiple e-mail addresses, identities or devices in an attempt to circumvent the rules. If you use fraudulent methods or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rules your submission may be removed from eligibility at the sole discretion of Kanu Hawaii.
5. Qualifying Submissions: To be considered, the nominee must simply be a volunteer in Hawaii. One way is to participate in an opportunity during the week of April 17-23, 2022. Then, share a video or photo and why the selected volunteer is making a difference in their community..
6. Judging: The winner is the entry that receives the most votes from unique individuals when the contest concludes on April 30th, 2022. They will be awarded the United travel credit. We encourage all nominating organizations to share the opportunity with their networks to encourage participation in selecting their nominee. While we only have one prize, all nominees are appreciated for their efforts and we want to mahalo all entrants for giving back to the communities in which they live, work and stay.
7. Prizes: The approximate retail value of the prize is $2500. The prizes are: A non transferable travel voucher equivalent to the value of $2500 good on United flights worldwide!. Actual/appraised value may differ at time of prize award. The specifics of the prize shall be solely determined by the Sponsor. No cash or other prize substitution permitted except at Sponsor's discretion. The prize is nontransferable. Any and all prize related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and local taxes shall be the sole responsibility of the winner. No substitution of prize or transfer/assignment of prize to others or request for the cash equivalent by winners is permitted. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for Kanu Hawaii to use winner's name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
8. Winner Notification: Winners of the Contest will be notified via e-mail or phone to the e-mail address or phone number they entered into the Contest with within five (5) days following the winner selection. Kanu Hawaii shall have no liability for a winner's failure to receive notices due to winners' spam, junk e-mail or other security settings or for winners' provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. If the selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize within 15 days from the time award notification was sent, or fails to timely return a completed and executed declaration and releases as required, prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner selected. The receipt by winner of the prize offered in this Contest is conditioned upon compliance with any and all federal and state laws and regulations. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES BY ANY WINNER (AT SPONSOR'S SOLE DISCRETION) WILL RESULT IN SUCH WINNER'S DISQUALIFICATION AS WINNER OF THE CONTEST AND ALL PRIVILEGES AS WINNER WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.
9. Rights Granted by you: By entering this Contest you understand that Kanu Hawaii, anyone acting on behalf of Kanu Hawaii, or its respective licensees, successors and assigns will have the right, where permitted by law, without any further notice, review or consent to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter in perpetuity and throughout the World, your entry, including, without limitation, the entry and winner's name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image or statements about the Contest, and biographical information as news, publicity or information and for trade, advertising, public relations and promotional purposes without any further compensation.
10. Terms: Kanu Hawaii reserves the right, in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should (in its sole discretion) a virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. In such case, Kanu Hawaii may judge submissions from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by Kanu Hawaii. Kanu Hawaii reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or violates these Terms & Conditions.
Kanu Hawaii has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the Contest, to void entries for any reason, including, but not limited to; multiple entries from the same user from different IP addresses; multiple entries from the same computer in excess of that allowed by Contest rules; or the use of bots, macros or scripts or other technical means for entering. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Kanu Hawaii reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. 11. Limitation of Liability: By entering you agree to release and hold harmless Kanu Hawaii and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from (i) such entrant's participation in the contest and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof, (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest; (v) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries.
12. Disputes: THIS CONTEST IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF UNITED STATES AND HI, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this Contest, participant agrees that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in HI having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, other than participant's actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e. costs associated with entering this Contest), and participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
13. Privacy Policy: Information submitted with an entry is subject to the Privacy Policy stated on the Kanu Hawaii Web Site.
