ShelterBox USA Inc, Los Angeles Wildfire Emergency Distributions -Supporting Recovery in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles wildfires tore through neighborhoods destroying thousands of homes and buildings and leaving tens of thousands of people displaced. ShelterBox USA was on the frontlines providing relief to those in need.

We distributed specifically requested aid items including:

• 600 LuminAID Solar Lights – To bring light and power cell phones

• 400 White Nylon Bags – For storage and transport of emergency supplies

• 200 Thermal Blankets and 100 Comforters – Ensuring families stay warm during cold nights

• 100 Cook sets and 100 Dinnerware Settings – Enabling families to prepare and share hot meals

• 500 Handwarmers, 400 Pillows, and 100 Towel Sets – Addressing urgent, on-the-ground needs

Alongside staff (including Communications Director Paul Vercammen, pictured above) and volunteers, one of our most inspiring heroes, long-time ShelterBox USA ambassador, Rene Amy, whose own home was lost in the fires, stepped forward to help distribute aid. Despite his personal loss, Rene’s strength and commitment continue to uplift his community, a testament to the resilience we all share.

Historic Sotterley, This spring, Historic Sotterley had the opportunity to return a historic building to its site. This building, called the Homestead, previously resided on a neighboring property that was once part of Sotterley's over 400 acres of land, but had been parceled off throughout history. It housed generations of emancipated workers, and represents an opportunity for us to preserve a piece of post-emancipation history.

The Hummingbird Project,

Association for Leadership and Islamic Fellowship, Two elementary school girls are learning both Arabic and English to preserve their culture and heritage. Dual language learning starting in elementary school helps students become proficient and stay connected to their kin and extended families. ALIF's nonprofit goal is to provide support to parents and stakeholders to ensure Arabic-speaking minorities are represented in public schools' education and curriculum.

Rise and Remember , On January 17, 2021–Martin Luther King Jr. Day—members of the black community of George Floyd Square (E 38th St & Chicago Ave S) in Minneapolis, MN erect a steel fist solely with people power. No heavy equipment was used. The fist still stands and is cared for by Rise & Remember as a powerful symbol of our collective fight for black liberation and our community’s ongoing work to move forward in justice together.

Key local government agencies, law enforcement, community, social and legal service providers, and the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Offices are located on-site at PorchLight to make it easier for victims and survivors to get help. We strive to offer our community a kind-hearted, victim-centered home where victims, survivors, and their children come first as they work through the healing process.

Golden State Opportunity, Women in California continue to see a systematic erosion of their well-being and economic status, a trend that has intensified since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for low-income women and women of color. Golden State Opportunity held a series of roundtable discussions with impacted women so that their stories and voices can empower and inform policy decisions made on their behalf. In 2022, Peaks to People Water Fund united a diverse coalition to transform wildfire management and conservation across the region. Through the Big Thompson Watershed Health Partnership, diverse partners are working together to ensure this landscape is healthier, safer, and more resilient in the face of wildfire.
