With the most amount of votes received by the public, he is our 2023 Unstoppable Father's Contest Winner!
Story: My father survived pancreatic cancer! Unfortunately, there aren’t too many people in this world who can say that. It was more than 14 years ago on May 13, 2009 that he underwent an 11 hour Whipple surgery to remove his pancreas as well as other parts of his abdomen. I remember the date vividly because it was on that exact day that my first son was born! My father joked with the surgical team that he was having the C-section while I was having the baby. What makes it even more amazing is that initially the doctor was hesitant to even consider performing the operation. It is a very complex surgery (my dad was 73 at the time) and the recovery takes a full year. He did not think my father was a good candidate, but thankfully my dad convinced him otherwise. This surgery and the entire process epitomizes my father; he defies the odds and just keeps fighting. We are nearing 15 years and at 87 he regularly golfs 18 holes and he insists on walking instead of riding in a cart. He also refuses to allow us to hire someone to cut the grass and he clears the snow off his driveway that is large enough for 6 cars. You would think he’s some sort of Goliath but the funny thing is my dad looks pretty unassuming. He’s about 5’10” and he probably weighs about 150 pounds. He truly is a juggernaut because he doesn’t let anything stand in his way. He is an unstoppable force. I am one of three girls and you can bet I am so thankful that he is my dad. He has taught me to face life without fear, believe in myself, and to persevere even when the odds are against me. The best part of it all is that he is never braggadocious. In fact, every couple of years he takes the time to hand write a letter to the doctor who performed his surgery because he wants him to know that he is so thankful he performed the operation and that he is still alive because of him. My father is an amazing role model and I dare someone to stand in his way!
Story: Embarking on a hiking adventure to find the perfect fishing spot, my dad and I were armed with our fishing gear and a sense of excitement on a beautiful summer morning. The trail wound through the lush wilderness and we set off sporadically. The dense canopy above us filtered the sunlight as we trekked further into the forest, leaving a path of gold in its wake. Sharing stories and laughs, we reveled in the rarity of our father-son adventure. As we walked for an hour, the tranquil river glistened like diamonds in a clearing that came into view. We were drawn by its beauty to cast our lines and reel in fish, so we ventured down the steep slope with excitement. This oasis was too appealing to pass up.
A massive brown bear emerged from the undergrowth with a sudden rustling sound as we reached the riverbank. Little did we know that nature still had more excitement in store for us that day. Our attention was immediately caught and we froze in our tracks by the powerful presence of the bear. My dad's protective instincts kicked in as the bear locked its piercing gaze upon us, reflecting a mix of curiosity and hunger. Time seemed to stand still as we locked eyes, heart racing. Acting swiftly and cautiously became our top priority. Backing away with utmost tranquility, my dad signaled for me to follow suit, fearing any hasty actions might summon the bear's fury. Together, step-by-step, we took the same route we had come, hoping the bear would be diverted and forage elsewhere. We were constantly on the move with our adrenaline pumping, heart racing. Every small movement of the forest had us on edge feeling the chills go down our backs. Our surroundings were pure untamed wilderness, and we knew that we had to have a balance of respect and fear. Our panting and fear kept us trudging on until we eventually couldn't hear the bear chasing us anymore. We stopped to rest our eyes, always skimming for any upcoming threats. It was a long moment of uncertainty before we finally registered that we had gotten away from the bear's grasp. Our spirits remain undamped as we press on, determined to locate another fishing location. Our sense of anticipation swells as we delve further into the forest. Little did we expect our persistence to be so greatly rewarded. A hidden gem was waiting to be discovered. Suddenly, amidst towering cliffs, we caught a glimpse of something truly extraordinary, a secluded lake nestled amongst a break in the trees. The inviting water was so clear that it seemed to hold secrets from ancient times. This was the spot we had been searching for all along. My dad and I swiftly prepared our fishing equipment and threw our lines into the glistening water. While we waited in the midst of nature's pure and unblemished scenery, we conversed happily, exchanged tales, chuckled, and also enjoyed moments of silence and thoughtfulness. As the sun was about to set, the hours ticked by without any luck. Then, my dad was startled as his fishing rod took an abrupt lurch. With a quick movement, he reeled in his line and a stunning rainbow trout appeared from the depths of the lake just as we were deciding to pack up and leave. The fish's size and vibrancy had us beyond excited. It was proof of the resilience and perseverance we had shown, making our triumph all the more sweet. This memory would be forever etched in our hearts, and we couldn't help but celebrate. As we made our way back home, we packed up our gear and reflected on our encounter with the bear. It was a stark reminder of nature's unbridled beauty and capriciousness. But, perhaps more significantly, it was put on full display.
Story: My dad has been on a relentless search for our genealogical ancestors his whole life. As a little boy at the family reunions he became hooked as he listened to tales of his ancestors. Since then (for over 50 years) he has searched libraries, courthouses, clinics, church records, DNA analysis, German records, and contacted others with our family name online to find more "puzzle pieces." He recently had a huge breakthrough and has found the German city of our 8x great-grandfather who came to America. I would love to go there with him to see it in person. The church (built in the 1200's) where our immigrant grandfather was baptized in 1720 still exists and still has services in it! Amazing. It took my dad over 50 years to find the town we're from but he was unstoppable in his pursuit.
Story: My father is a true force of nature. He's a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, and has spent his career protecting our community as a law enforcement officer. Despite all the challenges he's faced, he's never lost his spirit or given up. I've watched him tirelessly nurture and support my mother through 3 different bouts with cancer, showing his unwavering commitment to his family. Additionally, he fostered and adopted a very troubled sibling group of 3. His determination is inspiring and I strive to emulate his resilience.
Story: In a small town nestled between rolling hills there lived a man named John. He was a simple man with big dreams and an unwavering determination to create a better life for his family. From a young age, John had seen his family struggle, and he vowed to break the cycle of hardship that had plagued them for generations. John's days were long and arduous. He woke up before the sun kissed the horizon and worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. Despite the challenges that life threw at him, he remained undeterred, fueled by his unwavering love for his family. John's dedication was evident in every aspect of his life. He toiled in a factory, where the monotonous hum of machinery became the soundtrack of his determination. The grueling hours never seemed to faze him because he knew that every ounce of effort he put in would eventually lead to a brighter future for his wife and children. His coworkers admired his tenacity and unyielding spirit. They often marveled at his ability to face every obstacle with a smile on his face. John became the beacon of hope in their lives, reminding them that anything was possible with enough perseverance and unwavering dedication. But it was within the confines of his humble home that John's true strength shone. After an exhausting day at work, he would return to his family, his fatigue forgotten in the presence of their love. His children, wide-eyed and eager would gather around him, hanging on to his every word as he regaled them with tales of hope and the promise of a brighter future. Despite the financial hardships, John never let his family go without. He would sacrifice his own needs to ensure that his children had food on the table and clothes on their backs. He believed that education was the key to a better life, so he worked multiple jobs to provide for their schooling, investing in their dreams with every penny he earned. As the years passed, John's relentless pursuit of a better life bore fruit. His children excelled in their studies, driven by the example set by their father. They understood the sacrifices he had made, and they were determined to make the most of the opportunities he had provided. John's unwavering dedication did not go unnoticed. The community, inspired by his resilience, rallied behind him, offering support and encouragement. They recognized that his commitment to his family was a testament to the power of love and determination. And so, the years rolled by, and the family's circumstances began to change. John's children graduated from college, securing promising careers. The seeds of opportunity he had sown had blossomed into a bountiful garden of success and happiness. Through it all, John stood tall, a pillar of strength and unwavering dedication. His unwavering spirit had created a ripple effect, inspiring others to persevere in the face of adversity. He had become a living testament to the idea that one person's unwavering dedication could change the course of not just their own life, but also the lives of those around them. As the sun set on another day, John looked at his family gathered around him. My family, their smiles radiant with gratitude. The struggles and sacrifices were but distant memories, replaced by the joy and fulfillment that comes from knowing that you have created a better life for those you hold dear. John's story is a testament to the incredible power of unwavering dedication and love. It serves as a reminder that, no matter the obstacles that stand in our way, we have the strength within us to overcome them and create a better future for ourselves and our loved ones.

IMPORTANT: You must complete all of the following steps in order to ensure your Story is submitted for review into the Contest:
If you do not provide all required information, your Story will not be submitted for review and possible inclusion into the Contest or eligible to win a Prize. Submission must be completed by 11:59:59PM PT on June 30, 2023 or your Story will not be submitted into the review process for the Contest.
There is no limit to the number of Stories an individual can submit in the Contest. The same Story may not be registered for the Contest more than once.
Entrant represents that he/she owns all rights to his/her Submission. Entrant further represents and warrants that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person whose name and/or picture (“Likeness”) is included in the Submission, and that such person(s) have granted Entrant all necessary rights to use the person’s Likeness as described in these rules, and that Entrant can make written copies of such permissions available to the Sponsor upon request. Sponsor’s determination as to whether the Submission potentially violates the rights of any third party is final.
By entering a Submission, Entrant irrevocably grants Sponsor and its affiliates, legal representatives, assigns, agents and licensees, the unconditional and perpetual right and permission to reproduce, encode, store, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, exhibit and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used), the Entrant’s Submission, as well as to use Entrant’s name, likeness, photograph (collectively, “Likeness”), and/or statements regarding his/her participation in this Contest (with or without using the Entrant’s name) in any and all media without limitation as to time or territory, and without additional compensation or approval from the Entrant or any other party. Entrant waives intellectual property rights, privacy/publicity rights or other legal or moral rights that might preclude the Sponsor’s use of the Submission, and agrees not to sue or assert any claim against the Sponsor for the use of the Submission or Entrant’s Likeness or statements.
Entrant agrees to indemnify and hold Sponsor, its agencies and Contest Parties and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the “Indemnitees”), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Indemnitees due to or arising out of the Entrant’s Submission, or the Entrant’s conduct in creating a Submission or otherwise in connection with this Contest, including but not limited to claims for trademark infringement, copyright infringement; violation of an individual’s right of publicity or right of privacy; or defamation. Entrant further agrees to release Sponsor from any and all claims that any advertising subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of Sponsor infringes Entrant’s rights with regard to any elements, characters or ideas contained in any Submission.
If any group of individuals elects to collaborate on a Submission, they are required to designate one (1) representative to enter the Contest and accept the prize on behalf of the group. Neither Sponsor nor any of the Contest Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators related to a Submission.

Determining The Finalists:
From all eligible entries received, five (5) Finalists will be selected.
A panel of qualified independent judges selected by the Sponsor will judge each eligible Story based on the criteria below:
In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the highest score in the first judging criteria (Inspiring), continuing thereafter to each judging criteria in order (Creativity, Writing Quality, Uniqueness), as needed to break the tie.
All potential Finalists will be notified starting on or about July 13, 2023 and are subject to verification, including without limitation, verification of eligibility, compliance with these Official Rules, completion of all required documents and a personal background check (“Final Review Process”). Once five (5) potential Finalists have cleared the Final Review Process, they will be declared the Top Finalists. Entrants agree that the Sponsor has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this Contest and that all decisions of Sponsor are final and binding.
Sponsor reserves the right to select fewer than five (5) Finalists if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Submissions.
Determining The Grand-Prize Winner:
Once determined, Finalists’ Stories will be posted online on the Contest Website for public vote from 12:00:00AM PT on July 14, 2023 to 11:59:59PM PT on July 21, 2023 (the “Public Voting Period”). Finalists will receive one (1) vote each time a “Voter” clicks the “Vote for this story” button. Limit one (1) vote per person per day for the entire Public Voting Period. Voting is open to persons who are legal U.S. residents currently residing in the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are at least twenty-one (21) years old.
The Finalist Story with the highest number of votes will be declared the Grand-Prize Winner. Winner will be notified by telephone or email. Winner will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Indemnification and a Publicity Release (where allowed by law) within five (5) business days. If potential winner does not reply to such notification within five (5) business days, an email notification is not acknowledged after up to three (3) attempts and/or the Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Indemnification and Publicity Release is not returned to Sponsor within specified time period, winner will be disqualified and Finalist with second highest number of votes will be named the Grand-Prize winner.
The Grand-Prize Winner is subject to verification, including without limitation, verification of eligibility, compliance with these Official Rules, completion of all required documents and a personal background check. Entrants agree that the Sponsor has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this Contest and that all decisions of Sponsor are final and binding.
ARV of all prizes is $5,000. No substitution or cash equivalent of prize is permitted except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Winner is responsible for any and all federal, state and local taxes or assessments and any person winning over $600.00 in prizes will receive an IRS Form 1099 from Sponsor for the calendar year in which the prize is awarded. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including without limitation, infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion to cancel, modify or terminate the Contest. Further, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual deemed to be (a) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or any Sponsor; (b) violating the Official Rules, or (c) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Sponsor reserves the right to require Grand-Prize Winner to submit to a confidential background check to confirm eligibility as a condition of awarding the prize to help ensure that the use of any such person in advertising or publicity for the Contest will not bring Contest Parties into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule or reflect unfavorably on the Contest as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.
Choice of Law: Contest is governed by the federal and state laws of the United States and void where prohibited by law. Any dispute arising from the Contest shall be governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to its conflict of laws rules and the Superior Court located in Napa County, State of California shall have jurisdiction over any action arising from the Contest. With respect to any suit, action or proceeding arising out of or related to this Contest, the parties hereby submit to the jurisdiction and venue of the Superior Court of Napa County, State of California, or to the U.S. District Court-San Francisco.
