I can confidently say I’ve never dreamed of paperwork, or working behind a desk. I dream of being alive. Running through fields, chasing stars instead of sunsets, living forever. The feeling of summer as the morning swings in the sky and the warmth of eternity. I want to sit on rooftops and dangle my feet into oblivion and wonder about falling just for the sake of it. The fall, not the consequence. Can you imagine how exhilarating that would be? We are not, despite what Lana Del Rey said, born to die. We are born to live. A thousand lifetimes just to feel the power of existence. We are born to dream and create and build, leave our mark upon this earth because we were put on it for a reason. What our reasons are, our purposes, we decide that. Me, personally, I want to be everything. A writer, a poet, a lawyer, a doctor. I want to learn every language and read every code, play every instrument and see every corner of the globe. Watch every movie and play because how can you exist and miss out on anything? Most of all, I dream of making it big. Though I'm not sure how, yet- an actor? A painter? A musician? But before then, I have to learn to live. Goals change, but also life does, and after an unfortunate but needed move, I transferred to a different university near my hometown junior year of college to just better myself. I took a semester off to focus and regroup about things I found challenging with myself as well as how I dealt with the world around me. Now I’m here and I’m loving it, I’m making great changes in the way I am not letting the past defeat me. I have had success at my new school in friends and academics as well as recently being nominated as a sisterhood chair for my sorority . I just wanna say, if I don’t get any money, so be it. Just really listen… don’t let anybody stop you or say no or challenge you for trying to make your life Better. Life is not over at 17, I know that is cliché and a lot of people use it in TikTok videos, but for real no matter what age you are at, you can improve yourself to become the better you. You can lose that weight, change your style, get that flawless make up look you’ve always wanted to do but never could, nothing in life is stopping you from improving yourself. I just believe that everyone should be grateful for another day/Another Chance at growth. Telling you the truth, I never thought I would be where I am right now about two years ago. I really thought I hit rock bottom, I was crazy, and I was always going to give myself excuses for not being good enough because of my past. And right now, sitting in my dorm at my new school, only one semester behind of graduating and undergrad degree, I can say holy shit I can do it you can too. I am not the most motivated person, I procrastinate all the time, I have those nights where I’m starving and eat a bunch of food and then feel like shit at myself, and just feel over all shitty, I even have those days where I have thought of Ken what happened to me in the past still be used as an excuse now? But then I look at myself, the life I have built around me, by myself and help from parents/a support system, but mainly me because I was the one that had to put in the effort to do it. When I saw NCT 127's Cherry Bomb I remember thinking that I wanted to be them. But I was too scared to try because I didn't have confidence myself until recently. Being an Indian American woman, I didn't think that there was even a chance for someone like me to be able to debut. But after I saw Sriya from Blackswan and Aria from X:in, it gave me the confidence to consider trying. Now my attitude towards auditioning is *Why not? *so that I have no regrets or doubts left for not trying. The worst that could happen is that I don't get accepted, so what's the harm in trying? Even if I don't get the chance to debut as a k-pop idol, I can see myself continuing down the path of a dancer/performer in the future! I finally had the courage to start my dance journey last summer and am currently part of two k-pop cover dance teams! I was looking at Aelfric Eden for an upcoming performance I have on June 1 of one of my favorite groups A.C.E's recent comeback My Girl and would love to be able to own the perfect pieces for my stage outfit! I don’t come from the greatest living situation, fortunately for me I’m good in arts. So I took classes where you learn to do nails, I’m getting really good at it and the more I practice my craft, the better I get. I use to write stories everyday because that was the only thing I could put my creativity and imagination into action. Writing stories also made me feel (still to this day) as if I can escape into an alternate Reality and ignore all my problems by just making up fictional characters and problems. Even though people didn’t like reading my stories (in 1st grade) because the plot didn’t make sense, I knew one day people would love them and I will sell a lot of my books. In middle school, I started to find my favorite genre which was mystery and I wrote my first one and was really fond that I started to show my English teacher and parents it and they were invested! Specifically I wanted to study in an international school but thought it'd be near impossible concerning how to get by in another country and how to support myself. I worked really hard in high school to make this dream of mine happen from getting straight As to trying to network in the academic sphere and learn more about others. Come senior year I was deleted mentally because of challenges that arose in my life and decided to apply to the schools I wanted to attend since a child and to my surprise I got in the top school in South korea. I was shocked at how just a small thought I had since a child came to manifest. However, within every person contemplating sui**ci*d3 there's a strong desire to stop suffering and find happiness. So, I gathered courage and tried something radically different to change my life. If it didn't work, I figured I could end it all. If it did, then great. It worked. I moved to another city far from a toxic environment that was draining me, and I started studying IT. That led me to pursue programming. It was tough, but I eventually succeeded. My dream was to stop suffering and be happy, and I achieved that, along with landing a job I love and am passionate about as a software developer, a partner I adore, and a happy life. Ever since I was young, my future dream career had switched at least 4 times in the span of 5 years. From teacher to actress to model to astronaut, I had no idea about what I wanted to do with my life; this, however, changed once I saw my first celebrity on screen. Although I forget who they were, I do remember how gorgeous they looked and how my entire life changed from then on. I went from obsessing over space and biology to yearning how to do makeup, hair, fashion design, singing, and dancing- traits that would either make me a celebrity, or help someone else look like one. My parents, however, disagreed completely, and they encouraged me to go after a more useful career, such as a doctor or a business manager of some sort. The plan was easy, finish high school, go to college and major in drama. Because I want to become an actress. I remember vividly when I was 9 years old, on the couch with both my parents in the living room. And when my dad asked me if I knew what I wanted to become in the future. I was already smiling, I knew what I wanted to become, I was sure of it and I trusted that my parents would support me and my dreams because they always said they were my biggest cheerleaders. So I told him the words ' i want to become an actress" finally leaving my mouth after I kept it in for a while. And I remember it so well, my dads smile falling off his face as he turned to look at my mom who just stared at me. I was 9 but I wasn't stupid, I knew what that look meant. They were for sure not on board with my plan. My dad tried talking me out of it thinking I wouldn't notice because I was 9, he told me I could study communications and become a broadcaster. I did not want to be a broadcaster, never even considered it. But i agreed with him for the time being, my parents probably thought that i would grow out of it because i was just 9. It's been about 6 years since then and I still want to be an actress. The number of time iv'e heard the words " what do you want to become when you grow up" in the span of 6 years is more than i could count. I feel as though i'm the only one keeping track of those questions because i'm embarrassed of what i want to become. I have never told anyone i want to become an actress since i was 9. Sometimes i'd sit in my room and practice lines i see off google or pinterest and see how good i was at acting and i knew right then and there if i kept working on it i would be able to do it. I've been practicing in secret for about 3 years now and i'm progressing and i'm proud of myself. I want to take acting classes, improve my acting skills. But anytime i think of bringing that idea up to my parents i shut that thought down because i know there is absolutely no way they would let me. I've taken a total of 29 careers quizzes from 2023-2024 so far to try and see other options because i am losing hope that i could become an actress. So far the options i have are business owner, real estate or dermatologist. I've been leaning towards real estate for a while but as usual my parents don't approve of it. I'm genuinely tired of it all. It's 12:17 am i'm on my bed writing my story to you about my dream that's making me believe the phrase "my dreams are just dreams" from a movie i watched once. I watch my friends daily looking at them realizing that they already know what they want to do and they aren't ashamed of it. I have to lie or say that i'm not sure yet when ever i get asked that question. It's a question i dread hearing but i still hear it more often that i'd like to.
